The Internal Revenue Service has issued a news release pertaining to calling the agency. The IRS has imposed an identification verification step when calling the IRS to assist in protecting taxpayers' privacy and security.

To ensure callers will not have to call again, the agency asks callers to be prepared and have Social Security numbers and birth dates, or ITINs for those on a tax return in question. Also have the filing status, prior-year tax return, a copy of the return in questoin and any letters received by the IRS on hand.

Note: Different steps pertain to deceased taxpayers, and third parties operating on behalf of a taxpayer. For help with the 2017 tax year or any tax related issues, feel free to set up a meeting with our firm. For existing clients, meet with Tom Jones, CPA, and for new, potential clients schedule a free consultation.
